Simple answer, no. But there is a caveat!
Centering artworks is an easy way to go but art can also look fabulous off-centre as long as the other elements in the space are working together to balance the proportions.
Here, if you look closely, you can see my artwork isn't centered above the console but it doesn't necessarily appear that way because of the tall vase and arrangement running down one side.
Also, the smaller decorative elements are placed below the artwork to help balance the weight.
So, while centering an artwork is usually fail safe, off-centering a painting, when done well, can look more sophisticated and interesting.
